About Allchin Law Office
Summer is originally from Letts, Iowa.  She graduated from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota with a B.A. in Nordic Area Studies and International Relations.   Summer spent a year abroad studying at the University of Oslo in Norway.  Prior to attending law school, Summer worked for Human Rights First in Washington, D.C.  She also volunteered with Capital Area Immigrant Rights (CAIR) Coalition, an immigrant detainee non-profit.

Summer specifically attended law school in order to pursue a career in the field of immigration law.  In 2007, she received a J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law, where she was awarded the “Michelle R. Bennet Award for Outstanding Client Service” for her work in the legal clinic.  Summer worked as a student legal intern in the legal clinic for nearly three years, working almost entirely on immigration cases.   As a law student, Summer worked with the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV), assisting immigrant victims of domestic abuse obtain legal status.  She also interned with the Refugee and Immigrant Program at The Advocates for Human Rights.

Upon graduating from law school, Summer worked for St. Cloud Area Legal Services, in St. Cloud, Minnesota as an immigration and family law attorney.  She then worked for four years as an associate attorney for a small immigration firm in St. Paul, Minnesota.  While practicing in Minnesota, Summer volunteered with the Minnesota Immigrant Detention Project, assisting immigrant detainees in their initial hearings with the Immigration Judge.  She also volunteered with the Park Avenue Walk-In Legal Clinic, providing immigration advice and assistance to low-income residents of the Twin Cities.  Recognizing a need in her hometown community, Summer moved back to Muscatine, Iowa and opened Allchin Law Office.

Summer is licensed to practice law in Iowa and Minnesota.  However, because immigration law is federal law, she is able to practice immigration law in most states.  Summer is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).  She served on the AILA Upper Midwest Conference Planning Committee in 2011 and 2012, and was on the organizing committee for the Iowa-Nebraska AILA Chapter Conference in 2014 and 2015.  In March of 2011, Summer was also a presenter at an AILA CLE entitled "Detention, Bonds, and ISAP."  She presented "Immigration Law 101" at the Iowa State Bar Association's 2015 Summer Seminar in Okoboji, and has also been a presenter at multiple Iowa-Nebraska AILA Chapter CLEs.  She is the immediate past Chair for the Iowa-Nebraska AILA Chapter.

Summer volunteers regularly with the Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON) clinic in Columbus Junction, Iowa.  She also serves on the board of the Diversity Service Center of Iowa (DSCI) in Muscatine.

Summer speaks Spanish and Norwegian.
